01Who We Are
Road Trip Assist is published by Dedalva LLC ("we", "us", or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect information when you use the Road Trip Assist mobile application ("App") on Android or iOS.
If you have any questions or concerns about this Privacy Policy or your personal data, please contact us at the address above.
02Scope
This Policy applies to all users of Road Trip Assist regardless of where you are located. We have written it to comply with:
- The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR — Regulation 2016/679)
- The UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and UK Data Protection Act 2018
- The Australian Privacy Act 1988 and Australian Privacy Principles (APPs)
- Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial laws
- The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), and other applicable US state privacy laws
03Information We Collect
3a. Information You Provide Directly
When you use Road Trip Assist, you enter information that is stored locally on your device only. This includes:
| Category | Examples | Sensitivity |
|---|---|---|
| Trip data | Origin and destination, departure date/time, planned and saved trips, optional trip labels | Personal |
| Saved places | Home, Work, and custom saved addresses and their labels | Personal |
| Vehicle data | Vehicle name, drivetrain (gas / electric / plug-in hybrid), range, tank size, battery capacity, fill and charge thresholds | Personal |
| Preferences | Units (distance, fuel volume), weather update interval, driving and break limits, fuel and electricity prices, theme | Personal |
Road Trip Assist is account-free — you do not create a login, and we do not ask for your name, email address, or phone number to use the App.
3b. Location Data (Optional)
If you grant permission, the App can use your device's GPS location to set your current location as a trip origin and to position you on the route map. Specifically:
- Location is accessed only when you tap "Use current location" or while a trip you are actively driving is open
- You can always type an origin manually instead of granting location access
- You can revoke location permission at any time through your device settings
3c. Information Sent to Service Providers to Plan Your Trip
Road Trip Assist's core features — routing, live weather, fuel prices, and EV charger locations — require looking up real-world data. To do this, the App sends the locations relevant to your trip to third-party service providers over a secure connection. This is necessary for the feature you requested to work.
| Feature | What is sent | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Routing, ETA & tolls | Origin, destination, and waypoint coordinates/addresses | Network |
| Live weather along route | Coordinates of waypoints along your route | Network |
| Fuel & EV charging stops | Route corridor coordinates and selected vehicle's fuel type | Network |
| Nearby dining | Coordinates of a selected stop, when you tap “Find nearby dining” | Network |
We send only what is needed to return the result, and the request is not tied to an account or a persistent identifier we control. We do not keep a copy of these lookups on our own servers (we operate none for user data). The providers that answer these requests process them under their own privacy policies — see §7.
3d. Problem Reports (Voluntarily Submitted)
When you choose to submit a problem report from Settings → Help & Feedback, the App compiles the following into an email draft opened in your device's native mail app:
| Field | Source | Required |
|---|---|---|
| Description | You type it | Yes |
| Category | You select (e.g. Bug / Confusing behavior / Suggestion) | No |
| Screenshot | You attach from your photo library | No |
| App version | Attached automatically by the App | — |
| Device model | Attached automatically by the App | — |
| OS version | Attached automatically by the App | — |
The email draft opens addressed to [email protected]. You can review all content before sending. Nothing is transmitted automatically — you tap Send yourself. Closing the mail app without sending transmits nothing.
Once sent, problem reports are received and stored by Dedalva LLC and are subject to your email provider's privacy practices in transit.
3g. Shared Trip Links (Optional)
Effective when trip sharing launches. This section describes the shared-link feature. It applies only once that feature is available in your version of the App; until then, no trip data is sent to or stored on any Dedalva server.
If you choose to share a trip (via the share button in a trip plan), Road Trip Assist creates a shareable link of the form dedalva.com/t/<code>. To make the trip reachable by whoever you send the link to, a copy of the trip's route data is stored briefly on a Dedalva server. Specifically:
- Route-only, no identity: the shared payload contains only trip route data (origin, destination, waypoints, and plan options such as chosen stops and departure time). It contains no account, name, email, or device identifier — the App is account-free.
- Encrypted & zero-knowledge: the payload is encrypted on your device before it is uploaded. The decryption key is placed only in the link itself (in the part after
#, which browsers never send to the server). As a result, Dedalva cannot read the contents of a shared trip — the server stores only an opaque encrypted blob. - Unguessable & expiring: each link uses a random, unguessable code and automatically expires after a limited period, after which the stored blob is deleted.
- You control it: sharing is always initiated by you, and you can revoke a link at any time (see §9), which deletes the stored blob before expiry.
- Recipients: anyone you give the link to can open the trip (in the App if installed, otherwise on a web page). Only share links with people you intend to.
3e. Information Collected for Advertising (with Consent)
Road Trip Assist is a free app supported by advertising through Google AdMob. To serve advertisements, AdMob may automatically collect certain information, which may include:
- Device identifiers (Advertising ID / IDFA)
- IP address (approximate, coarse location)
- Device type, operating system version, and language
- Ad interaction data (impressions, clicks)
This collection is subject to your consent, which is requested through a consent dialog (powered by Google's User Messaging Platform, “UMP”) when you first launch the App in regions where consent is required. If you decline personalised advertising — or are outside a region where consent is required — non-personalised ads may still be shown; these use less data. You can change your choice at any time (see §11). The advertising SDK does not receive your trips, saved places, vehicles, or route lookups.
3f. Information We Do Not Collect
We keep our own data footprint as small as possible. Specifically:
- We have no servers or cloud storage that hold your trips, vehicles, or places by default. The only exception is a trip you explicitly choose to share: an encrypted, route-only copy is stored temporarily to power the shared link, and even then we cannot read it (see §3g).
- We do not require an account, email address, or phone number
- We do not sell your personal data for money
- We do not collect analytics or crash diagnostics ourselves — aside from the advertising data described in §3e, no data leaves your device without your action or a feature you trigger
- We do not collect financial or payment information (the App is free with no in-app purchases)
04How We Use Your Information
Data You Enter (Stored on Your Device)
Your trip, vehicle, saved-place, and preference data is used solely to operate the App on your device:
- Plan and display routes with distance, duration, ETA, and toll estimates
- Show live weather at waypoints along your route
- Recommend and rank fuel and EV charging stops for your selected vehicle
- Schedule breaks based on your driving preferences
- Save trips and places for reuse, and remember your settings
- Send local notifications (e.g. break reminders) where enabled
Location Lookups (To Deliver the Feature)
The coordinates and addresses described in §3c are used only to fetch the routing, weather, and stop information you asked for. They are not used for profiling or advertising.
Problem Report Data (When Voluntarily Submitted)
The information in a submitted problem report is used solely to investigate the issue described, improve the App, and respond to you. We do not use it for advertising, profiling, or any other purpose.
Advertising Data (with Consent)
If you consent to personalised advertising, Google AdMob uses the data described in §3e to serve relevant ads. If you decline (or are outside a region where consent is required), non-personalised ads may still be shown using less data. You can withdraw your consent at any time (see §11). We do not combine advertising data with the trip, vehicle, or place data stored on your device.
05Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR & UK GDPR)
For users in the European Economic Area (EEA) and United Kingdom, we rely on the following legal bases:
| Processing activity | Legal basis |
|---|---|
| Storing trips, vehicles, saved places & preferences on your device | Performance of a contract / legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(b)/(f)) — necessary to provide the App's core functionality you have requested. |
| Sending locations to routing, weather & stop providers | Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) — necessary to deliver the route, weather, and stop results you requested. |
| Accessing GPS location for "current location" and live positioning | Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) — you grant location permission explicitly. |
| Receiving and processing voluntarily submitted problem reports | Consent / legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(a)/(f)) — you initiate the report and review its full content before sending; processing is necessary to investigate and resolve the reported issue. |
| Local break & reminder notifications | Legitimate interests / consent (Art. 6(1)(f)/(a)) — a core feature; you control notification permission. |
| Personalised advertising (Google AdMob) | Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) — collected via the UMP consent dialog on first launch. |
| Storing an encrypted copy of a trip you choose to share | Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) — you initiate sharing; the blob is encrypted, unreadable by us, expiring, and revocable. |
| Non-personalised advertising (Google AdMob) | Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) — limited, non-targeted advertising to support free access to the App. |
06Data Storage and Security
All data you enter into Road Trip Assist is stored exclusively on your device. We use the following security measures:
- OS-level data protection: The App's local database is stored within the App's sandboxed storage, protected by your device's built-in encryption (Android Full Disk Encryption / iOS Data Protection) when your device is locked.
- Encrypted transmission: Lookups sent to routing, weather, and stop providers (§3c) are transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections.
- Data minimisation: We send only the coordinates and parameters needed to return a result, without attaching account or identity information.
- Shared-trip encryption: When you share a trip (§3g), the route data is encrypted on your device before upload using a key that stays in the link and never reaches our server, so a shared trip is stored only as an opaque blob we cannot decrypt.
Because data is stored locally, the security of your information also depends on your device's own security features (screen lock, OS updates, etc.). We recommend keeping your device operating system and the App up to date.
07Data Sharing and Third-Party Services
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for their own purposes. We do, however, rely on the following categories of service provider to deliver the App's features. Each processes the request under its own privacy policy and acts as an independent data controller for the data it receives.
| Provider category | Purpose | Data received |
|---|---|---|
| Mapping & routing | Routes, distance, ETA, tolls, map tiles | Origin, destination, waypoint coordinates |
| Weather | Live conditions along the route | Waypoint coordinates |
| Fuel prices | Gas prices near the route | Route corridor coordinates |
| EV charging networks | Charger locations, speed, availability | Route corridor coordinates |
| Dining / places | Nearby restaurants for a selected stop | Coordinates of the selected stop |
The specific vendors used are listed in the App's "About → Acknowledgements" screen and may change over time as we improve coverage and accuracy. We choose providers that support privacy-respecting, account-free lookups wherever possible.
Trip Sharing (Dedalva, Optional — Effective at Launch)
When you choose to share a trip (§3g), an encrypted, route-only copy is stored temporarily on a Dedalva-operated service so the link you send can be opened. Because the data is encrypted on your device with a key we never receive, we hold only an opaque blob we cannot read. It is deleted automatically when the link expires, or immediately when you revoke it. We do not use shared-trip data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose other than delivering the link you created.
Google AdMob (Advertising, with Consent)
The App includes Google AdMob to show advertisements. When you consent to advertising, Google may collect and process data as described in the Google Privacy Policy. Google acts as an independent data controller for the data it collects via AdMob. We have no access to, and are not responsible for, the data Google collects for advertising purposes.
- Google's privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy
- Google's AdMob data disclosures: support.google.com/admob/answer/6128543
Legal Disclosures
We may disclose information if required to do so by law, regulation, court order, or other legal process, or if we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Dedalva LLC, our users, or the public.
Business Transfers
In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or substantially all of our assets, your on-device data would not be transferred, as we do not hold it.
08Data Retention
Because all data you enter is stored on your device:
- Your data persists until you delete it, clear the App's data, or uninstall the App.
- Uninstalling the App deletes its local database on both Android and iOS.
- Device backups: Some backup systems (iCloud on iOS, Google One on Android) may include App data in a general device backup. You can manage this through your device's backup settings.
- We do not retain your trips, vehicles, or places on our servers because we do not receive them — except for a trip you explicitly choose to share, whose encrypted, unreadable route blob is stored only until the link expires or you revoke it (see §3g and §9).
- Location lookups (§3c) are retained by the relevant service providers according to their own policies; we keep no copy.
- Shared trip links (§3g) are stored only as an encrypted, unreadable blob and are automatically deleted when the link expires, or immediately if you revoke it.
- Problem reports you voluntarily submit by email are retained as correspondence for as long as necessary to resolve the issue, then deleted. To request early deletion, contact [email protected].
09Data Deletion
Because Road Trip Assist stores your data on your device, you are in control of deleting it. You can remove your data at any time:
- Delete within the app: Use the in-app controls to remove individual trips, vehicles, or saved places. Deleting an item removes it from your device.
- Clear all app data: Clearing the App's storage in your device settings, or uninstalling Road Trip Assist, permanently removes all trips, vehicles, places, and preferences the App has stored. This action cannot be undone.
- Device backups: If you use iCloud (iOS) or Google One (Android) backups, a copy of App data may exist in that backup. Manage or delete it through your device's backup settings.
For any information held off your device — specifically, problem reports you voluntarily send us by email — you may request deletion at any time by emailing [email protected]. We will delete the related correspondence, except where we are required to retain it to comply with a legal obligation.
Shared trip links: a trip you chose to share (§3g) is stored only as an encrypted blob and is deleted automatically when the link expires. You can delete it sooner by revoking the link from the trip's share options in the App, which removes the stored blob immediately. Anyone still holding the link can no longer open the trip after it is revoked or expires.
10International Data Transfers
Your trips, vehicles, and saved places do not leave your device and are therefore not subject to international transfer. The location lookups described in §3c, any problem reports you voluntarily submit by email, and any trip you choose to share (§3g) may be processed or stored by service providers in the United States or other countries where those providers operate data centres.
Where such transfers occur, the relevant providers rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or other transfer mechanisms approved under the GDPR and UK GDPR. Please refer to each provider's privacy policy for details.
Advertising data collected by Google AdMob (with your consent) may also be transferred to and processed in the United States and other countries where Google operates data centres. Google relies on Standard Contractual Clauses for these transfers. See Google's Privacy & Terms for details.
11Your Rights
Regardless of where you are located, you may contact us at [email protected] with any privacy concerns. Your specific rights depend on your jurisdiction:
EU / EEA (GDPR) and United Kingdom (UK GDPR)
You have the right to:
- Access — obtain a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Rectification — have inaccurate data corrected
- Erasure ("right to be forgotten") — request deletion of your data
- Restriction — ask us to restrict processing in certain circumstances
- Data portability — receive your data in a structured, commonly used format
- Object — object to processing based on legitimate interests
- Withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent (including GPS location), withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing
- Lodge a complaint — with your national supervisory authority (e.g. the ICO in the UK, or your EU Member State's data protection authority)
Because your data is stored on your device, most of these rights can be exercised directly within the App (editing or deleting records) or through your device settings (revoking location or notification permissions, uninstalling the App).
To withdraw consent for GPS location: Go to your device Settings → Apps → Road Trip Assist → Permissions → Location → Deny.
To change your advertising consent: Open the App → Settings → Privacy & Ads, or reinstall the App, which resets the consent state.
To remove all stored data: Delete items in-app, or clear the App's storage / uninstall the App.
California (CCPA / CPRA)
California residents have the right to:
- Know what personal information we collect, use, or disclose
- Delete personal information we have collected (note: we hold none on our servers)
- Correct inaccurate personal information
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information — we do not sell personal information for money, and we do not share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising outside of Google AdMob, which is subject to your consent
- Non-discrimination for exercising your rights
To exercise these rights, contact us at [email protected]. We will respond within 45 days.
Canada (PIPEDA)
We collect only the minimum personal information needed to operate the App. You have the right to:
- Access your personal information held by us
- Withdraw consent to the collection or use of your personal information at any time (subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice)
- Challenge our compliance with PIPEDA by contacting us, and if not resolved, by filing a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (www.priv.gc.ca)
Australia (Privacy Act 1988 / Australian Privacy Principles)
Under the APPs you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you (APP 12)
- Request correction of personal information that is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete, irrelevant, or misleading (APP 13)
- Know why a request for access or correction is refused
Because we hold no personal information on our servers, these rights are most practically exercised directly on your device. You may also contact us at [email protected]. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (www.oaic.gov.au).
12Children's Privacy
Road Trip Assist is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or under 16 where required by local law, including in the EU and UK). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under these ages. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has entered information into the App, you can delete the App or clear its data to remove all locally stored information. Please also contact us at [email protected].
13Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For material changes that affect how we handle your data, we will provide notice within the App.
Your continued use of Road Trip Assist after changes become effective constitutes your acceptance of the revised Policy.
14Contact Us
If you have questions, concerns, or requests relating to this Privacy Policy or your personal data, please contact:
We aim to respond to all privacy enquiries within 30 days. EU/UK users with unresolved concerns may also contact their national data protection authority.
